 ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

 

JOB SUMMARY

Full-time position with benefits. Individuals working as Athletic Director will be responsible for overseeing the administration of sports and recreational programs for events and activities. Such individuals perform professional duties in planning, developing, coordinating, implementing, and supervising recreation and athletic programs for the city. The Athletic Director will oversee the following sports: baseball, basketball, softball, flag football, tackle football, adult softball, sports parks playing surfaces. Perform administrative office duties in the Parks and Recreation Department as required or as assigned by the Director. Oversee game fields, sports staff, volunteers, officials and assist with property improvement projects.

  • Range: 20.19 – 31.32 per hour

JOB DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Organize and oversee the administration of sports and recreation programs events and activities including baseball, basketball, softball, flag football, tackle football, adult softball.  
  • Assist with planning, organizing, developing, scheduling, and evaluating recreation and athletic programs and sports facilities and athletics staff and volunteers.
  • Oversight of preparing game fields including field painting, chalking, watering and dragging.
  • Coordinates volunteer requests from the community; recruit, train and supervise volunteer coaches, athletics staff and committee members.
  • Assists with public relation communications such as emails, social media, banner sales, preparing and distributing flyers and brochures.
  • Assists with preparing and administering individual program and facility budget as appropriate; monitor expenditures and payroll in accordance with established procedure.
  • Schedules recreation facilities and supervises the condition of sports facilities.
  • Assists maintenance with property improvement projects as needed.
  • Conducts and attends a variety of training seminars, staff meetings, coaching clinics, and community meetings.
  • Maintains sports inventory and equipment; distributes supplies and equipment; assists with ordering supplies and equipment for recreation and athletic programs.
  • Monitors participant compliance with all policies, laws, rules and regulations of recreation and athletic programs.
  • Provides clerical support, program registration, answer telephones, and maintains correspondence with other divisions or agencies; may respond to public inquiries.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Bachelor's degree in recreation administration, physical education, social work, psychology or closely related field and one (1) year experience in public recreation; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Paid experience working at an administrative level developing, organizing and administering organized league programs involving various athletic youth sports (e.g., baseball, basketball, softball, football, flag football, tackle football, adult softball, soccer, etc.) to include facility operations, planning and monitoring programs. Experience developing and monitoring an operational budget.

SKILLS

  • Knowledge of various sports and game rules, regulations, techniques and other related information is needed to act as a coach or game official.
  • Knowledge of principles involved in the management of staff/personnel.
  • Knowledge of procedure and guidelines governing the purchase of equipment, supplies, services.
  • Knowledge of parks, maintenance and sports field management is desired.
  • Administrative skills operating computer programs (e.g., outlook, excel, google drive, word)
  • Capacity to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to adapt to the daily challenges associated with a busy work environment.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions.

Part-Time Senior Center Bus Driver 


JOB SUMMARY

Part time position. The City of Springville is searching for a bus driver with a heart for service for the seniors within the Springville community. Candidates must be able to navigate directions successfully. Experience in transporting people is beneficial, and a basic knowledge of our service area is expected. Our driver is expected to drive a 26/28 passenger bus. Must have your CDL and Passenger endorsement.  Typically, drivers will drive 2 outings a month most months and possibly a 3-day trip, once a year. Adherence to City, State and Federal polices and laws is mandatory. Safety cautious individuals is a must.

  • Assist Seniors and staff with any tasks as needed.

  • The driver must be able to work well with others with sincere, honest, and transparent interactions.
  • The driver should take proper care of the Senior Citizen’s while transporting.

SUMMARY OF BASIC WORK:

The City of Springville, Alabama is soliciting bids for the renovation of the farmers market facility at 6374 U.S. Hwy. 11 Springville, Al 35146. The project will consist of the clearing, grading, and constructing the following items: concrete sidewalks, concrete stage with pergola, vendor booths with pergola, artificial turf area, drainage, water fountain, community garden beds, low voltage electrical lighting and outlets including curbing. For farmers market project facility design drawings or to schedule a site visit, contact parks & recreation director, rhopkins@cityofspringville.com or call 205-467-0265.    

The work will be awarded in one (1) contract.

BIDS:

Bids shall be returned to City Hall, 160 Walker Drive or mailed to PO Box 919, Springville, AL 35146, by 10:00 AM on Monday, May 6th, 2024. All bids shall be placed in a sealed envelope clearly marked “Bid – Springville Farmers Market”. The bidder’s name, address, telephone number and the name of a contact person shall be included on the bid proposal sheet. The City of Springville reserves the right to reject any or all bid proposals, to waive informalities and re-advertise. JOB SUMMARY

The part-time Parks and Recreation Big Canoe Creek Nature Preserve Attendant will perform diverse duties assisting in the day-to-day oversight and patrol of the Big Canoe Creek Nature Preserve grounds, trailheads, trails, parking lot, facilities, and public areas. The position is primarily supervising the Big Canoe Nature Preserve on weekends.

JOB DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under direction from the BCCNP Manager support efforts include:

·       Responsible for ensuring the entrance gate opens and/or closes at designated seasonal times of operation.

·       Capable of hiking and learning all trails of the Preserve.

·       Removes litter from grounds, parking lots, and other public areas; assesses, empties,

and maintains proper waste receptacles/containers and materials.

·       Notifies the Manager or Maintenance Tech of any reported adverse trail conditions, i.e., fallen tree obstructing a trail, etc.

·       Report to the Manager or Maintenance Tech any repairs needed for all tables, benches, fences, kiosks, signs, doors, gates, railing, and small structures.

·       Enforces compliance with preserve rules tactfully and courteously.

·       Maintains restrooms for cleanliness and ensures adequate toilet paper available.

·       Performs customer service functions; provides information and assistance relating to facilities or activities.

·       Responds to routine questions/complaints, research problems, and initiate problem resolution.

Splash Pad Manager Job Description: 

This seasonal part-time and flexible position will oversee the staffing of the Big Springs Splash Pad in Springville, AL. The splash pad manager will handle scheduling, customer service, and daily employee operations. 

Job Responsibilities and Duties: 

  • Overseeing splash pad employees 

  • Scheduling

  • Managing time-off requests

  • Creating a schedule for employees 

  • Managing coverage for missing staff

  • Managing time clock 

  • Daily Check-Ins

  • Visiting the splash pad to ensure employees are performing roles and responsibilities

  • Ensuring the splash pad is being cleaned properly by splash pad staff

  • Coordinating with Parks and Rec Staff during weather events 

  • Advising splash pad employees on closure for lightning/weather/etc.

  • The splash pad manager will serve as the point of contact for staff to contact with any issues that arise during the shift.
