JOB DESCRIPTION

PARKS & RECREATION GENERAL LABORER

 

 

JOB SUMMARY

The Part-Time Parks and Recreation Maintenance Technician is responsible for the general maintenance, landscaping, and upkeep of parks and recreation facilities and other City-managed properties. Primary responsibilities include mowing, weed eating, leaf blowing, collecting litter, emptying trash receptacles, cleaning and stocking park restrooms, cleaning park grounds and buildings, performing routine maintenance and minor repairs, assisting with park improvement and construction projects, and operating commercial mowers and other landscaping and maintenance equipment. This position also performs general labor duties and other related tasks as assigned to support the operation, appearance, and safety of City parks and recreation facilities.

JOB DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Responsible for regular upkeep and maintenance of grounds, trails, parking lot and related

public facilities including:

  • Mowing, edging, trimming, blowing, pruning trees and shrubs, watering, mulching, raking, hoeing, digging, chipping brush, weeding, deadheading, and edging.
  • Cleans and removes litter from grounds, parking lot, and other public areas.
  • Repairs, sands, scrapes, paints, or stains: tables, benches, fences, kiosks, signs, doors, gates, railing, and small structures.
  • Maintains, cleans, services, repairs and/or replaces irrigation systems and equipment.

 

2. Cleans and removes litter from grounds, parking lots, and other parks managed areas; assess, empties, and maintains proper waste receptacles/containers and materials.

 

  • The above is not intended as an exhaustive list of duties / responsibilities and the employee shall be required to perform any and all other related duties as directed by the Parks and Recreation Director.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including being on-call.
  • Ability to conduct physically strenuous field work in rugged terrain.
  • Attention to detail and ability to accurately track and report on project metrics, activities, and accomplishments.

 

SKILLS

  • Capacity to work both independently and in a team environment
  • General principles of construction; operation and maintenance of common types of light to heavy equipment used in construction and landscaping, mowers, weedeaters, chainsaws, skid steer, UTV’s.
  • Ability to use and manipulate small hand tools such as screwdrivers and hammers as well as larger tools such as shovels, trowels, rakes; construct, maintain, and repair various types of structures used in park access and use.
  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions
  • Capacity to operate a variety of landscape and park maintenance equipment
  • Capable of lifting a variety of heavy objects
  • Ability to work flexible hours including overtime, weekends.

The physical demands of the position are significant.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently be required to walk, stand, sit, bend, talk and hear, and use hands to finger, handle or feel.  The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and may be required to do so on a frequent basis.  The employee will be required to exert significant physical effort to perform the job duties and responsibilities of this job.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Part-Time Senior Center Bus Driver 
JOB SUMMARY


Part-time position. The City of Springville is searching for a bus driver with a heart for service for the seniors within the Springville community. Candidates must be able to navigate directions successfully. Experience in transporting people is beneficial, and a basic knowledge of our service area is expected. Our driver is expected to drive a 26/28-passenger bus. Must have your CDL and Passenger endorsement.  Typically, drivers will drive 2 outings a month most months and possibly a 3-day trip, once a year. Adherence to City, State, and Federal policies and laws is mandatory. Safety-cautious individuals are a must.
