Springville Parks & Recreation








  Full time position with benefits. Coordinates and assists with athletic activities within the Parks and Recreation Department; performs related work as required. A large portion of this position’s duties will be on nights and weekends.

The principal functions of an employee in this class are to prepare game fields, oversee assigned programs and serve as the Parks and Recreation Department's representative during an athletic activity or park events to ensure compliance with all program guidelines and safety requirements. The work is performed under the supervision of the Director of Parks and Recreation and/or Athletic Coordinator but some leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. An employee in this class performs the duties of other employees in the Parks and Recreation Department as required or as assigned by supervisory personnel. This includes general maintenance duties, assisting with construction projects, cleaning the parks grounds and buildings, operating commercial mowers, small landscape related equipment and preparing fields for game play.

  • Provides oversight of a Parks and Recreation athletic activity, including supervising activity participants, enforcing organizational guidelines, and ensuring all appropriate safety standards.
  • Provides administrative support, program registration, answer telephones, and updates social media and website.
  • Oversees assigned sports programming and event operations such as chalking/painting fields, scorekeeping, concession operation, evaluations, program registration, and cleaning buildings/bathrooms.
  • Assists with tournaments, leagues, clinics, or other related recreation athletic activities to promote a professional presentation of such activities and provides guidance to individual recreation participants.
  • Assists with Splash Pad operation, special events, and other park activities
  • Documents any accident or incident or failure to adhere to set polices and informs Parks and Recreation administrative staff as necessary.
  • Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others fully and accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems.
  • Attends meetings and training sessions as necessary to become and remain current on the principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas.
  • The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with other departments and City employees, members of community organizations and the public.
  • Responds to citizens' questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.



  • Valid driver’s license
  • Experience in athletic recreational activities
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work


  • Knowledge of department and Recreation rules and regulation;
  • Knowledge of safety principles and procedures involved in recreational activities;
  • Skill in the use of modern office equipment and Office programs;
  • Skill in decision making and problem solving;
  • Skill in interpersonal relations and dealing with the public;
  • Skill in oral and written communication;
  • Skill in organizing and planning;
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others;
  • Ability to coordinate a recreational activity involving several participants

The physical demands of the position are significant.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently be required to walk, stand, sit, bend, talk and hear, and use hands to finger, handle or feel.  The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and may be required to do so on a frequent basis.  The employee will be required to exert significant physical effort to perform the job duties and responsibilities of this job.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
